Designation of the Child's Companion

• Mothers are the designated companions for children admitted to our hospital.
• However, in special circumstances (e.g., when the mother has a medical condition that prevents her from staying with the child), another family member may be designated as the companion with the approval of the attending physician and the charge nurse (e.g., grandmother, older sister, or aunt).

Companion Guidelines

• Only one companion is permitted for each child. Two companions are not allowed to stay in the child's room at the same time.
• Unless otherwise instructed by the healthcare staff, the companion must remain with the child at all times.
• For infection control and hygiene reasons, companions should not enter other patients' rooms, the playroom, or remain in the corridors.
• Companions must not perform any procedures or interventions for the child unless instructed by the physician or nurse.
• Companions are responsible for following all instructions given by the physician and nurse regarding the child's care.
• No medications other than those provided by the nursing staff should be kept in the child's room.
• Companions must notify the nurse immediately if they notice any problem concerning the child.
• The companion is responsible for keeping the child's room, including the wardrobe and bedside cabinet, clean and organized.
• The beds in the children's rooms are intended for the use of our pediatric patients.
• Each room is equipped with a convertible chair for companions to rest and sleep.
• For the health and psychological well-being of our pediatric patients, companions should not sleep in the same bed with the child or sit together with the child on the same bed or chair.

Hygiene and Infection

• When admitted to the hospital, children should not bring toys, except for one favorite toy. Toys that promote violence or may cause harm (such as toy guns, rifles, bows, or swords), as well as toys that cannot be adequately cleaned (such as furry or plush toys), are not permitted.
• For hygiene reasons, children and their companions should not wear nail polish, lipstick, or other cosmetic products, or earrings.

Bathing Procedures for Children and Companions Upon Hospital Admission

• Before entering the inpatient ward, companions must take a shower in the designated room provided by the hospital, as directed by the patient advisors, and change into the companion clothing provided by the hospital.
• The child should be bathed in the assigned inpatient room and dressed in the clothing provided for the child by the hospital.
• Both the companion and the child must wear only the clothing provided by the hospital while in the ward.
• Companions are responsible for showering daily and changing into clean clothing.
• When leaving the ward to visit outpatient clinics or the cafeteria, companions should wear their own clothes.
• Companions who visit another hospital or participate in activities outside the hospital must take a shower upon returning and change back into the clothing provided by the hospital.
• Upon admission, all luggage and belongings must be left in the luggage room designated by the reception desk.
• Personal belongings (such as underwear, a toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) may be kept in the wardrobe provided in the child's room.
• To protect the health of our patients and their families, smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on the hospital campus. Refraining from smoking in the vicinity of the hospital is also strongly encouraged.

Nutrition and Diet

• Each child's diet plan is individually prepared by the physician and dietitian, taking the child's preferences into consideration. Therefore, special dietary requests should not be made, except where permitted based on the child's medical condition and available resources.
• No food or beverages other than those provided by the hospital may be kept in the child's room.
• The nutrition plan prescribed by the physician and dietitian must be followed without exception.
• Unless otherwise instructed by the physician, children are encouraged to have lunch and dinner in the playroom with their peers under the supervision of a teacher.
• Snacks provided for the children will be collected from the room by the dietary service staff after the scheduled snack time. Adhering to snack and meal schedules is important for hygiene and treatment compliance.
• Unless otherwise instructed, companions should have breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the dining area designated for companions on B3 floor.

Playroom Use

• The playrooms in both hospital blocks have been specially designed to support our children's recovery and well-being, providing a safe and engaging environment for age-appropriate activities.
• Our teachers organize and conduct structured activities for the children in the playroom each day.
• Children who are medically eligible to attend the playroom should be encouraged and supported by their companions to participate in these activities.
• The playrooms are open daily from 08:30. After the individual medical rounds are completed, children are expected to participate in the scheduled playroom activities.
• Except during the child's initial adjustment period, companions should not enter the playroom.
• While the child is in the playroom, responsibility for the child's supervision rests with the staff.
• If necessary (e.g., for toilet needs, medication reactions, or medical device alarms), companions and nurses will be contacted.
• During activities, companions should not enter or leave the classroom, interrupt the session, or distract the children.
• Children are not permitted to use mobile phones or tablets in the playrooms.
• Toys and other playroom materials must not be removed without informing the teacher.

Other Rules

• The hospital is not responsible for any valuables brought by companions.
• Companions are required to wear the identification badge issued to them throughout their stay.
• Upon discharge, companions must return all items provided by the hospital, including the identification badge, luggage room keys, TV remote control, slippers, and hospital clothing, to the appropriate staff member.
• To help maintain a quiet and comfortable environment, children and their family members should avoid speaking loudly in patient rooms and ward corridors.
• To support the child's psychological well-being, discussions related to the child's treatment should not take place in the playroom, corridors, the child's room, or any area where the child may overhear them.
• Televisions in patient rooms should be used at a volume that does not disturb others and must remain switched off during physicians' rounds.
• Mobile phones and tablets should be kept in silent mode while in the hospital.
• Considering the children's medical conditions, the use of mobile phones, tablets, and laptops should be limited, and children's exposure to these devices should be minimized.
• In particular, the use of electronic devices after 12:00 midnight is discouraged.
• Companions play an important role in their child's treatment. Therefore, to support the overall well-being of both the child and the companion, companions are expected to participate fully in the educational sessions and programs organized by the Hospital's Social Services Unit.

Companion Change

• Companions may not be changed frequently.
• If a change is necessary, the companion must inform the ward's charge nurse.
• A companion change may be made only after the charge nurse has obtained approval from the child's attending physician.
• The companion change will take place at the ward entrance under the supervision of the patient advisor.

Temporary Leave for Companions

• Companions must not leave the child alone in the room.
• If necessary, the companion may leave the child's bedside for a limited period after obtaining approval from the charge nurse and completing a leave form at the ward's patient advisory desk.
• Upon returning to the hospital, the companion must notify the patient advisor on the ward before returning to the child's room.

Companions are required to comply with all hospital policies and regulations.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in the withdrawal of companion privileges.
