Pediatric Urology Department

Our Pediatric Urology Department provides comprehensive healthcare services covering the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up of kidney, urinary tract, and genital system disorders in children from the neonatal period through adolescence. Taking into account the anatomical and physiological differences unique to pediatric patients, individualized treatment approaches are developed according to each child’s age and developmental stage.

Urological conditions in childhood are of critical importance, as early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential to prevent permanent organ damage. Therefore, all diagnostic and therapeutic processes in our department are planned in accordance with up-to-date scientific guidelines and implemented through a multidisciplinary approach.

What Is Pediatric Urology?

Pediatric urology is a medical subspecialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of congenital or acquired disorders of the kidneys, bladder, urinary tract, and male genital system in children. Pediatric urological diseases may present with clinical features that differ significantly from those seen in adults and therefore require specialized expertise.

In our department, both congenital and acquired urological conditions are managed with a focus on supporting the child’s overall growth and development.

Congenital Urological Anomalies

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR)
Ureteral and urinary tract obstructions

These conditions are often detected during the prenatal period or early postnatal life and are placed under structured follow-up programs.

Male Genital Disorders in Children

Undescended testis (cryptorchidism)
Hydrocele
Varicocele
Hypospadias and epispadias
Testicular torsion

Early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention are crucial in preventing future functional and reproductive complications.

Urinary Tract Infections and Voiding Disorders

Urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are common in childhood, may indicate underlying urological abnormalities. In our department, the causes of recurrent infections are thoroughly investigated.

Voiding and Bladder Dysfunction

Bedwetting at night (enuresis)
Daytime urinary incontinence
Urinary frequency
Difficulty in urination
Neurogenic bladder

In these conditions, a comprehensive treatment approach is adopted, targeting not only the symptoms but also the underlying etiological factors.

Pediatric Nephrolithiasis and Urinary Tract Stone Disease

The incidence of pediatric nephrolithiasis has increased in recent years. In our Pediatric Urology Department, diagnostic evaluation, medical management, and, when necessary, surgical treatment of kidney and urinary tract stones are carefully planned.

Metabolic and nutritional factors contributing to stone formation are assessed, and long-term follow-up strategies are implemented to prevent recurrence.

When required, coordinated care is provided in collaboration with Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Nephrology, and Radiology departments.

In cases requiring surgical intervention, procedures are performed using pediatric-specific techniques. Preoperative evaluation, the surgical process, and postoperative follow-up are thoroughly explained to families.

Patient safety, strict sterilization standards, and postoperative comfort are among the fundamental priorities of our department.

Family-Centered and Multidisciplinary Care

In our Pediatric Urology Department, not only the disease but also the child’s and family’s adaptation to the treatment process is taken into consideration. Parents are fully informed throughout diagnostic and therapeutic stages, and all questions are addressed transparently.

Through a multidisciplinary model, comprehensive care is delivered in collaboration with Pediatric Surgery, Radiology, and Pediatric Infectious Diseases units.
