What Is Hematology?

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of blood and blood disorders. In the Pediatric Hematology Department, children and adolescents under the age of 18 are monitored and treated for hematologic diseases.

Our department is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the bone marrow, where blood cells are produced; red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the tissues; platelets, which stop bleeding; and white blood cells, which fight infections. Evaluation of coagulation and bleeding disorders is also within the scope of this specialty.

Bone Marrow / Stem Cell Transplantation

Bone marrow / stem cell transplantation is performed in conditions that may benefit from transplantation, including blood disorders, cancer, immunodeficiency, metabolic diseases, and autoimmune diseases.

Transplants may be carried out using stem cells obtained from siblings, relatives, haploidentical parents, or unrelated donors. These procedures are performed by our experienced Pediatric Hematology team in 16-bed special HEPA-filtered rooms located on the 4th floor of our hospital.

Services and Clinical Facilities

In our Pediatric Hematology Department, diagnostic and treatment services are provided to patients under the age of 18 on both an outpatient and inpatient basis.

Inpatient treatment services are delivered in the 40-bed Pediatric Hematology-Oncology clinic located on the 5th floor.
All rooms are single occupancy, and care is provided with mother accompaniment.

In addition, in the 20-bed outpatient chemotherapy unit, children receive treatment in comfortable, play-supported areas.
